Pastoral Care Visitors
Saint Martin’s is a large parish family, and it is neither
practical nor possible for the ordained to do all of the pastoral
outreach and care for so many. Further it is not Biblical that the
pastoral ministry of the Church is limited to so few. Pastoral gifts
of caring and comforting are likely the most prevalent of gifts
among God’s people. Given this, and in order to fulfill Saint
Martin’s Mission Statement that we create an atmosphere of
caring, sharing, and loving, Saint Martin’s has developed
a ministry of pastoral care visitors.
The role of the pastoral visitor is to visit those members who
are not able to be involved in worship and other parish events,
due to aging, or other physical conditions, whether temporary or
permanent. The Pastoral visitors have been trained to be more than
social visitors. They bring with them, their gifts of being caring
and compassionate, information as to happenings in the Church, and
a word of prayer and encouragement. All of this is done with sensitivity
and respect for the privacy and confidentiality of the person being
visited.
Both those being visited, and the visitors, are finding their hearts
blessed in the openness of giving and receiving the Lord’s
love in and through each other. As well, the witness of this growing
ministry is helping the Parish Family of Saint Martin’s learn
about seeing and finding Christ in each other.
