Our Renovation
The Parish of Gander was instituted in 1949. Anglican
Christians moving into Gander soon developed a sense of identity
and community. This community realized that Church growth was going
to be substantial, proportionally equaling the rise in population
of the Town of Gander. Construction on the Church began in 1957,
and the people of St. Martin's haven't stopped planning, working
or dreaming about the mission and place of the Church in this community.
Most recently renovations have been made
to the Church building to repair, improve and protect the structure.
Underlying all of this was a great desire to enhance the fellowship
and worship environment.
Expensive? You bet! over $400,000.00. At
the present time we have a monthly mortgage payment of
So... what did we get for
our money?
Professional Work and a Warrantee
A New Sunday School/fellowship /Meeting
Room with a fully equipped kitchen inside the Church.
A Total Rewiring of the Church which provides
safety and security.
A New Lighting System which greatly improves
the worship setting.
A Roof that has been re shingled, reinforced
and repaired.
A New Steeple
A fresh Choir room and Nursery
Newly renovated wheel chair accessible bathrooms
in both ends of the Church Building
A New Balcony
A Fantastic Sound System.
a Well equipped vestry (Sacristy) where
the altar guild members can do their work, storage is convenient
and comfortable preparation for worship by the clergy and servers
can take place.
Bottom Line....
Have a Look at the Figures....
Our Parish has a substantial debt. As of January
1, 2006, it was $345,700.00 . In 2006, St. Martin’s is a church
without any savings or investments.
Regular weekly offerings are absolutely essential for our survival!
We need to reduce our debt as quickly as possible.
We are paying $3,294.00 per month. $1,350.00 of that amount is interest.
The mortgage is not a fixed rate loan, so interest payments may
increase.
There is still a morgatge on the Airport
Bvld. Rectory as well
Thank God, we are growing in numbers
and faith. The burden will be shared. Let’s challenge and
“defeat” this debt quickly because we have some urgent
tasks at our doorstep, and we are helpless to do anything about
it until finances allow.

Challenges and Vision
The people of St. Martin’s have been faithful to this Church
over the years. Challenge after challenge has been met through the
decades. There is much to be proud of!
The past ten years has seen a change in society that makes us understand
the newest challenge is to proclaim an unchanged gospel to a world
that is radically changed. The challenge before us is greater than
ever before.
When we consider our finances the challenges are Threefold.
1. To pay the debts we owe and maintain the ministry
at present levels.
2. To prepare for the future. In addition to future
maintenance, the cathedral has an aging, inefficient and failing
heating system. When the system is replaced the Church will need
ceiling insulation. The Cathedral floor needs to be replaced. Before
this is done the heating system must be replaced by one that will
not cause the same problems of humidity and floor rot that we have
now. This work must begin as soon as possible.
3. Developing and implementing a vision for the
future. A Vision that understands that present levels of ministry
need to grow stronger, and that St. Martin’s needs to be more
(and more!) of an outreaching community to our town and world.
Our Prayer is that our income will not only meet
the budget but exceed expenses yearly in such a way that we can
optimistically , joyfully and confidently move forward.
We CAN Do This! Thank You for your support and commitment
to the Lord, and His Church!
